She has competed in many art competitions in Southwestern Ontario and has been the recipient of many red ribbons and various awards for her art work. Two major events in London seek her talent – the London Health Sciences Centre Country Classic Auction and the Canadian Intensive Care Foundation – to aid in fundraising in the health care sector. Throughout the year, she works on commissioned pieces of art. A specialty is horse portraits. Her clients provide her with a picture(s) of their horse/pet and she creates a realistic portrait of the subject(s). She has always been involved with horses in one form or another, from driving the team at haying season (a few years back) or presently riding her horse. Like art, horses are her passion and will remain with her forever. She has quoted “When I’m elderly and can only hold a paint brush instead of the reins, I pray I’ll be able to enjoy my horses in their pasture from my porch and on my easel.” Sandra works with chalk pastels but also works with acrylics, oil, pen & ink and pencil. Painting landscapes and seascapes are also favourites, as well as doing caricatures. Her sense of humour is expressed in some of her works. Her detailed and richly coloured realistic paintings of barns, landscape and animals depict her love for animals and the countryside. She recently has taken up stained glass and is looking forward to creating her equines in glass. At present, her art is a part-time career filled with great satisfaction from her accomplishments. One of her goals is to someday have her own open house/small gallery and make art her full-time hobby. Happy Trails! |
